Our Classes

Our classes are mostly done by birthday and current age. However, every child is an individual! If there is a need for a child to be in a different class than is determined by their birthday, we will all work together to find the best fit for that child within  the parameters set fourth by DHS. Each student is enrolled from August to May (just like a school year) and we do not move children to the next class on their birthdate. Once enrolled your child will stay with their class of peers and their teacher for the entire school year.

12 month

The Guppy teachers are specially trained in infant CPR and safe sleep practices.  In the Guppy class, we strive to provide a warm and inviting environment for your little ones first school experience. Children are invited to explore and play in a carefully curated environment designed just for our youngest students.

The Jellyfish room is a great place for your child stretch their legs and their imaginations while adapting to sleeping on a cot, socializing and sharing with friends, sitting at a table for snack and lunch, and participating in developmentally appropriate circle time (2-5 minutes). The Jellyfish are offered fun, hands-on crafts as well as a daily recess in the morning. This room is a safe, exciting, engaging place for your child to continue to learn and grow.

As a star fish, your child will begin to learn even more independence, continue to learn to share with their friends, develop problem solving and communication skills, and much more. This class is a great place for your child to learn to follow a routine, use their imagination in free play, and express themselves making through hands-on creative craft and sensory activities.

Potty training practice comes into play for most Starfish during the school year and our teachers are excellent resources for encouragement in this endeavor. The Star fish are learning life skills such as personal hygiene (washing hands, throwing away waste), good manners, and teamwork that will serve them throughout their lives and school careers.

Stingray

2 & 3 year old preschool transitional class

Stingray is our newest class, opened in November of 2018! This transitional class is designed to build on the skills of the Starfish class while integrating our preschool practices and techniques. This is our first true transitional class, that combines our CDO and our Preschool offerings to a mixed age group. For the older CDO children who are ready for more or students with a later birthday who need more time to develop this is the perfect middle ground.

This class offers a unique 3 or 4 day per week option.

3 year olds (3 days a week)

Welcome to Preschool!

As a three-year-old at First Presbyterian School the world is wide open and we strive to bring it all right to our students. Days filled with fun and hands on S.T.E.M. curriculum and early reading skills activities. As well as the freedom to explore and learn through one’s individual discoveries. We focus on both fine and gross motor skills and conduct lessons inside and outside the classroom setting.  Preschool students are invited to participate in our specials programs which include: Art, Music, P.E., Library, and Chapel. All specials are taught by instructors who design lesson plans that simulate and engage young minds and set the stage for a lifelong love of the arts and physical activity. In Preschool we encourage you and your family help build a strong partnership with your child’s teachers so we can best serve the individual needs and goals of each child.
